Discussion

Rockville’s sister city program started in 1957 as a task force of the municipal government.  In 1986, the structure changed to a volunteer 501(c)(3) corporation as Rockville Sister Cities Corporation (RSCC).  Its mission is conducting the sister cities program on behalf of the City of Rockville, Maryland.  Sister Cities International’s mission is creating global municipal relationships to develop lifelong connections, promoting peace and friendship through person-to-person “citizen diplomacy.”

Rockville’s sister cities are Pinneberg, Germany (since 1957) and Yilan City, Taiwan (since 2019).  RSCC engages the local community by conducting a number of annual special events, plus supporting cultural events offered by related organizations.  RSCC will host Pinneberg visitors prior to a joint cruise to the Caribbean in late June 2024.  The annual Asian luncheon will be in early August 2024.  RSCC will support the Richard Montgomery High School Jazz Ensemble going to the Pinneberg Jazz Festival in mid-August 2024.  The Annual Taiwan Bubble Tea Festival is on September 21, 2024 in Rockville, Maryland.  The week around that festival RSCC will host a student dance group from Fu Shing Jr. High School located in Yilan City, Taiwan.

RSCC will present the following topics to the Mayor and Council of Rockville: Introduction, Accomplishments, Organizational Status, Challenges, and Future.  RSCC would like to hear the Mayor and Council’s views of priorities for the organization now and in future years.

Mayor and Council History

RSCC was last before the Mayor and Council of Rockville on March 18, 2024 to support its FY 2025 grant request and on October 23, 2023 to present information regarding its delegation trip to Yilan City, Taiwan.  The last time RSCC presented to the body in a presentation and discussion capacity was on October 29, 2018.
