Staff recommends the Mayor and Council present certificates of recognition to Julius West Middle School students for their achievements. A sample Certificate of Recognition is attached.

Montgomery County Black History 365 Knowledge Bowl
Julis West Students Ava Rogers, Ben Vivens, and Sloane Mahaffey won their second Montgomery County Black History 365 Knowledge Bowl. 12 teams from across Montgomery County completed, and the team from Julius West won the competition.
This event was sponsored by Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Mu Nu Chapter, and Montgomery College. This is the second year in a row the team from Julius West Middle School has won the competition. The team was coached by Mrs. Kistina Templin.
2026 Eastern Region American Choral Directors Association’s Inaugural Middle School SATB (Soprano, Alto, Tenor, and Bass) Gospel Choir.
Julius West Middle School 8th Grader Oliver McKeever. auditioned and was accepted into the 2026 Eastern Region American Choral Directors Association’s (ACDA) Inaugural Middle School SATB Gospel Choir.
The United States Eastern Division of ACDA includes the following states: Connecticut, Delaware, Maine, Maryland/DC, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Oliver McKeever was under the direction of Dr. Robert T Gibson, Lancaster Bible College’s Director of Choral Studies. The rehearsals and performance were in Providence, Rhode Island. The performance was on Saturday, February 28, 2026, at the Veterans Memorial Auditorium.
