Recommendation
Staff recommends that the Mayor and Council authorize the City Manager to execute the City of Rockville Cooperative Agreement to continue the City’s partnership with Montgomery County Road Runners, Inc.
Discussion
Montgomery County Road Runners, Inc. and the City of Rockville propose to collaborate on the planning, hosting, and shared revenue of the 11th Annual Suds and Soles 5K race and event, scheduled for June 13, 2026, in Rockville Town Center. This partnership advances a shared commitment to engaging the community in activities that promote and encourage running and healthy lifestyles.
The parties seek to formalize their mutual understanding and respective responsibilities, combining resources, expertise, and efforts to achieve a common public benefit. Consideration for this Agreement consists of the mutual provision of support services necessary to plan and administer the community race event, along with an agreed-upon fifty percent share of race registration proceeds.
This agenda item requests authorization for the City Manager to execute the City of Rockville Cooperative Agreement on behalf of the Mayor and Council to continue this beneficial partnership with Montgomery County Road Runners, Inc.
Mayor and Council History
This is the first time the agreement has been presented to the Mayor and Council for approval. The agreement has been reviewed and approved for legal sufficiency by the City Attorney’s Office.
Fiscal Impact
Proceeds from the Suds and Soles 5K help offset the $12,550 event cost and provide financial support for the Eat Fresh Rockville program.
Next Steps
Once the agreement is approved and executed, staff will continue working with Montgomery County Road Runners, Inc. on the planning and execution of the 2026 Suds and Soles 5K.
