Discussion
On Wednesday, July 29, Associate Judge Debra L. Dwyer slipped on gravel on the walking path throughout the neighborhood and took a very bad fall. She fell right outside of the New Mark Commons pool and was able, after a few minutes, to get the attention of the lifeguard on duty. Several lifeguards came to Judge Dwyer’s aid. The lifeguards helped calm her down, made sure she did not lose consciousness, called an ambulance, and stayed with Judge Dwyer the entire time until the ambulance arrived. The New Mark Commons Pool Lifeguards maintained a constant presence throughout the incident. They were all very professional, completely selfless, focused, and rose to the occasion immediately.
The New Mark Commons Pool Lifeguards are:
• Alex Calvo
• Ava Kaveh
• John Metzger-Sloan
• Kaitlyn Petros
Their assistance, care, compassion, and support helped to calm a frightening and difficult ordeal, providing reassurance, comfort, and the appropriate aid when it was needed most.
The Mayor and Council and the residents of Rockville commend these heroes for their quick-thinking actions during a stressful incident.
