Recommendation
Staff recommend that the Mayor and Council recognize the participants and winners of the Fair Housing Month Youth Poster Contest.

Discussion
The Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) partnered with Julius West Middle School to launch the inaugural Fair Housing Month Youth Poster Contest. The theme was “Fair Housing for All: Carrying MLK’s Dream Forward.”
The artwork reflects not only artistic talent, but a deep understanding of fairness, inclusion, and the importance of welcoming communities. DHCD is grateful to Julius West Middle School for supporting this meaningful opportunity for students to engage with history and civic values.
Six pieces of art were submitted, with first, second, and third prizes being selected by votes from DHCD staff and the city’s Cultural Arts Commission. The winners will receive $100, $75, and $50 gift cards, respectively, plus all students will receive art supplies. The winners are as follows:
• First Place: Alana Chan
• Second Place: Maydeli Lopez
• Third Place: Nylah Boota
• Honorable Mentions:
o Atalia Viahou
o Josslynn Connelley
o Ruben Feinstein
All the student artwork will be proudly displayed for the community to view.
